There I was ,Jason Hammock, with Violet and Tamara playing the slot machine in Vegas. Violet was so into playing and showing me and Tamara how to play. I sat there watching the screen and listening to Violet tell me how I should bet. And in my mind I could just hear my dad, the minister, telling me how this was wrong. On one hand I needed the cash that this game could bring me if I won to help pay for all the tuition for the next semester then on the other I did believe how ill gotten gain can bring me nothing but ruin.

Tamara seemed to be enjoying the slot machine and learning how to play. I knew Tamara had never gambled before or at least that is what she had told me. I saw the pictures on the machine in front of me spin over and over and over and then land on three likenesses.

My heart was beating so fast thinking how my winnings was building each time. I felt such a rush in my pulse that I didn't know if I wanted to throw up or shout. As the winnings rose closer to that number that would pay for a full semester I found myself giving arguement to the fact that all the good it would do for me to win. It would take alot of worry away from my parents since these economic times had taken a bite out of their savings just to pay their own bills not to mention trying to put me through college.

Then my mind raced to come up with what excuse I could give my dad on where the money had come from. I'd tell him I had bought a ticket for a raffle that was giving away the money and I had won. I think he would believe that. And he wouldn't find that wrong I don't believe. And really Violet is the one punching the buttons and not myself. I'm not really the one that is working the machine. I fed the machine my last coin and Violet was desiding the buttons to punch and Tamara was looking on intendly at the screen.

My stomach did a flip flop and my head was spinning right along with the pictures that were flashing before my eyes. Where would this last play land me? I had promised the girls a steak dinner if I won. As the turning pictures slowed I heard a still small voice in my head say " Jason ,everything is yours for the asking, why do you not have faith and turn to me instead of the ways of the world?" At that the machine stopped and knew what choice I must make either way.
